Dollar-Inverse Confirmationtwo charts have to agree before there is a trade
Gold is quoted in dollars, so part of every move in XAUUSD is not a move in gold at all — it is a move in the dollar wearing gold's clothes. Separating the two is the single most useful thing a gold trader can learn to do.
The rule is blunt: take a gold long only when the dollar is also falling. When gold rises and the dollar rises, something unusual is happening — it may be a genuine gold story, but it is not the ordinary case and this strategy sits it out.
This page is about a driver of the gold price, not a chart shape. The driver is what the evidence is for — the entry trigger is ordinary and interchangeable, and swapping it for another one in this library does not damage the idea.

Exact rules
Entry
- Gold side: price above its EMA(20) on H4 and pulling back into it.
- Dollar side, at the same bar: the dollar index below its own EMA(20). Both conditions on the same close, not one of them from an hour ago.
- Trigger: an H4 close back up off the gold EMA(20). Enter at that close.
- If the dollar index is above its EMA(20), skip the trade entirely — do not take a smaller size instead.
Stop loss
- 1.2 × ATR(14) below the pullback low on gold.
- Second exit, separate from the stop: close the position if the dollar index closes back above its own EMA(20). Half of your reason for being in the trade has gone.
- Risk 0.5%–1%.
Take profit / exit
- TP1 at 1.5R, half off.
- The rest trails gold's EMA(20) on the H4 close.
- This is one of the few pages in the library with two separate exit conditions on two separate charts, and the second one is not optional.

More from Gold & metals
Trading carries risk and most retail accounts lose money. Nothing on this page is financial advice or a recommendation to trade. The chart is an illustration of the rules on constructed candles — it is not a record of a trade and not a backtest.
